10/27/14 Family night.

My thoughts on this show will be more personal for this experience. For a better recap of the show and a different take on last night by a much better writer than me be sure to check out my specially requested review by Pauly.
After a couple of hours sleep, a flight to San Francisco and a giant coffee, I spent the off day at game five of the World Series (because why wouldn't you). Saw some phriends (doing tour the right way) at the game with the same Idea and we were all fortunate to witness one of the greatest pitching performances of all time. I was with Jeanine, Kira, Barry and Cindy. At the end of the game I started to tear up and take it all in - what a beautiful way to end one of the greatest weekends of my life. I attempted to DVR the moment in my mind. What a special memory to always have.
We had a mellow Monday in San Francisco including some delicious dim sum and seeing some old spots where my pops hung out during the summer of love. We also checked out a very cool gallery featuring the work of Jim Marshall and Brian Duffy, two incredible concert / musician photographers. There is a photo of Jimi Hendrix playing a free concert at the panhandle of golden gate park right when you walk in and my pops is somewhere in that crowd of fans! Its a very cool exhibit at the San Francisco art exchange on 458 Geary - walking distance to the venue, quick stop and well worth checking out.
After that I hopped in line with my crew. I was in line early enough to get a poster however for this show it was much more important for me to save space for Kira and my pops who would be attending their first phish show (as customers vs working the shows at least). I ended up not getting a poster (they were gone in 26 minutes) but we did have great seats mike side balcony. It was interesting - I was more nervous hosting dad and Kira and hoping they had a great experience at Phish than the 86 people I hosted in San Diego. It definitely brought a different element to the show for me. I was more nervous for this show than any in a long time.
The Walfredo opening bust out in honor of a deceased fan was a nice nod to the community. The Maze and the party time were highlights for me from the first set. A decent opening stanza but didn't blow me away. The second set was better but again not great. Sand was not allowed to breathe enough, a nice ghost eventually emerged after a very rough start, good but again short seven below and an always fun set closing slave. Nice nod to the Giants with take me out to the ballgame to start the encore. Fun show, had a good time, one of the best shows of this tour yet still not IT.

Most importantly for me it was a special night with Dad and Kira. They liked it enough, were impressed with the energy and the feeling in the room. It was good not great to them (kind of like the show overall for me). Regardless they had fun, Kira likes some of the newer and more ballad songs, dads favorite tune was slave. Most of all they enjoyed the experience of seeing how I spend a lot of my time. It was really special being able to share it with them. I am one of the luckiest guys in the world.
