Phish Chicago 7/14/17
Band was better than I thought they would be after 6 months but plenty of flubs. Think they got a little tired - especially fishman / tempo. Not in game shape. Surprised how much I enjoyed everything's right. Really Good jam helped. Other new songs - I'm not so sure. Wolfmans was good. No men really solid. Flow wasn't great. Like the idea of hood -> use -> hood but after that awesome Allmans tease I was hoping for true mountain jam bust out. Also used the segue reprise feature right before on your golden cat.
Promising start but I'm glad there are 5 shows before the dozen. Speaking of...where they were tonight gets me even more pumped up for NY (if that was possible). The bakers dozen is going to be a huge moment in the career of the band. Something they have been dreaming about for 20 years. I think everything they are doing these next 5 shows are geared towards the BD. They added these shows after the dozen; I think they wanted to hit the ground in NY running full "steam" ahead and these five shows were a good way to find their legs.
As an aside I don't think there will be repeats. I think they will be extending songs, busting out tunes, introducing new covers. If that's the case, imagine the one Tweezer, the one Ghost, the one Sand, the one Carini, the one 30 min Mercury. (Yes I just listed my 5 favorite phish songs).
Either way we are about to experience something magical from my favorite band in the world. While it's a crazy time to be alive, I'm going to hold on tight because when I see the Phish everything's right.
